Power Minister Adedayo Adelabu announced that approximately 150 million Nigerians now have access to adequate electricity, while around 80 million still face unreliable supply.
Speaking at the 2025 Ministerial Sectoral Update Conference in Abuja, he credited progress to Nigeria’s involvement in Mission 300, a World Bank and AfDB initiative aimed at connecting 300 million Africans to electricity by 2030—with Nigeria expected to account for 75 million of that goal.
Adelabu emphasized that reliability and affordability remain the key challenges, not just access.
He urged global financiers to balance investment in renewables with strengthening Nigeria’s national grid, warning that over-reliance on off-grid solutions could hurt urban areas and industries.
He highlighted a power generation increase to 6,003MW, up by 1,700MW since President Tinubu took office, with a target of reaching 8,000MW by 2027.
He also confirmed that the Kaduna Power Plant will be operational by the end of 2025 and promised that the metering gap will soon be resolved.
