The House of Representatives on Wednesday passed the N1.81 trillion 2025 appropriation bill for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) after scaling its third reading during plenary.
The approved budget reflects an increase of N30 billion from the N1.78 trillion proposal initially submitted by President Bola Tinubu to the National Assembly on May 14, who had requested expeditious consideration.
During the budget defense on May 21, FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike highlighted that the majority of the budget is marked for capital expenditure, aligning with the administration’s focus on infrastructure development. Out of the original N1.78 trillion proposed, N1.28 trillion (72.3 percent) was allocated to capital projects, while N494.1 billion (27.7 percent) was designated for recurrent expenditure.
Wike detailed that road projects in both the city center and satellite towns would be overseen by the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) and the Satellite Towns Development Department (STDD). Specific ongoing projects mentioned include those in Guzape, Wuye, and Maitama districts.
