-UNION GIVES OAU FIVE DAY ULTIMATUM
-SUSPEND PAYMENT TILL FURTHER NOTICE
The students union of the Obafemi Awolowo University has given a five day ultimatum to the school management to reverse the school fees increment.
The union president, Comrade Abbas Akinremi said the union will shutdown the school if the management proves adamant after the expiration of the ultimatum.
It has also placed a ban on payment of the increased fees and instructed all financial institutions to suspend any payment from the university forthwith or face a closure of their outlets on the campus.
Akinremi said the students will not agree with a reduction but a total reversal to the initial fee.
The statement read in part, “Our last congress of Great Ife held on the 14th of September ended with the following resolutions
The management should make it a duty to reverse the increment in school fees.
The union’s leadership, with immediate effect, called for a press conference to keep the public and generality of Great Ife Students abreast of the happenings in the University community and the position of the student populace.
All financial institutions, remita, especially ignore and suspend any payment from OAU pending the time the Union will write to them; otherwise, their branches in Ife and OAU campus will be shut down.
The congress agreed that the university management be given a 5-day ultimatum to engage the Leadership of the Union. Afterward, we hit the street and shut down the activities on campus and the entire country if the ultimatum isn’t Met.”
The president of the National Association of University Students, Naus, Comrade Popoola Olayinka also warned the school management not to provoke the students to a mass demonstration by turning deaf ears to the issues on ground.
The school management has however urged the students to approach the school management with any grievance they have and avoid disruptive activities
