Tragedy struck in Daura, Katsina State, as a domestic dispute between two co-wives turned deadly. The Katsina State Police Command has arrested 25-year-old Rabi’a Labaran for allegedly stabbing her co-wife, 30-year-old Zainab Lawal, to death.
The incident occurred late on May 24, 2025, behind Dadi Primary School in the Sabon Gari area of Daura. Police reports indicate that a heated argument between the women escalated into violence. Their husband, Nasir Yusuf, returned from the market around 11:00 p.m. to find Zainab lying motionless with multiple stab wounds.
Police were promptly alerted, and officers led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) arrived at the scene. Zainab was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Daura, where she was confirmed dead.
During interrogation, Rabi’a allegedly confessed to the killing, stating that a misunderstanding between them turned physical and led to the fatal stabbing.
Katsina State Commissioner of Police, CP Bello Shehu, confirmed the arrest and strongly condemned the act, urging the public to resolve domestic issues peacefully and within the law.
“Disputes should be resolved through lawful channels. Taking the law into one’s hands only worsens the situation and undermines justice,” he said.
The police assured the public that a thorough investigation is underway and that the suspect remains in custody pending further legal proceedings.
