The Nigerian police have arrested Fifteen young men affiliated with a local youth gang known as Shila Boys for allegedly robbing residents of Yola, Adamawa State capital.
Osuntv.com.ng gathered from a statement obtained on Wednesday that the state Police Command announced the arrest of the suspects as part of its efforts to combat Shila gangsterism.
The arrests were made earlier in the day by police operatives from the Jimeta Division, Yola North LGA, Adamawa State, who were on patrol with vigilante groups along Rumde.
They encountered the Shila gang members armed with sharp daggers and knives, engaged in robbing innocent residents of their possessions.
The statement, signed by police spokesperson Suleiman Nguroje, disclosed that the 15 suspects were apprehended with weapons, including four sharp daggers and three knives.
Additionally, two mobile phones, a cash sum of N19,000, and quantities of hard drugs were recovered from the suspects.
The suspects, aged between 13 and 20, were identified as Adamu Abdullahi, Hassan Mohammed, Abdullahi Yusuf, Abdulrazak Abubakar, Ibrahim Umar, Mohammed Zakaria, Mohammed Auwal, Kabiru Abdullahi, Auwal Adamu, Aminu Adamu, Abdulrahman Umar, Amir Mohammed, Anas Rufai, Usman Tijjani, and Mohammed Abubakar.
The police assured the public that thorough investigations would be conducted, and the suspects would face diligent prosecution.
